If so, are you willing to share it? I received this email today from adoption.com:
Three different national television programs have contacted Adoption.com looking for immediate stories for upcoming shows. We invite you to share your adoption-related story if you would consider sharing your story on national television.
(1) OPPORTUNITY FOR TRANSRACIAL ADULT ADOPTEES - National NBC talk show is filming on Friday in NYC. They will cover airfare two transracial adult adoptees (20 years old or older) to come and share their story. They are looking for one adoptee who had a good experience growing up in a well-adjusted transracial home. They are also looking for a second adoptee who experienced more difficulties growing up as a transracial adoptee and would like to discuss those issues on national television. The are also open to considering other good transracial adoption stories.Posted by Camille at January 06, 2003 09:03 PM(2) OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS WHO WILL ADOPT BETWEEN JANUARY AND APRIL 2003 - A large, national cable network is producing a new heart-warming series covering parents through the adoption process. Each story will depict one couple or individual in the final stages of adoption, share the emotions of the exchange of custody, and then reveal how each is adjusting to their new family. Along the way, the viewers will learn about the adoption process and the adoption agencies that make it happen. They are looking for all types of adoption, domestic and international. Please include your story and the expected date you will take custody, what country the exchange of custody will take place in, and the name of the person or agency handling the adoption. Couples or individuals must be available for 3-4 full days of videotaping.
(3) OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE WITH A GOOD ADOPTION STORY - Hallmark Entertainment is producing its 2nd season for its' 13-part series entitled: "Adoption: The People, The Process." The are currently looking for both adoption and search and reunion stories. In the adoption arena, they are looking for both international and domestic stories, but in both cases are interested in finding only stories in which the adoption has not yet occurred. This Series will likely air in September, so they are seeking stories in which the adoptions will take place by mid-May at the latest. For an international adoption story, it's ideal if they can pick up the story just before the referral, and follow the family through the completion of their adoption. To date, they have covered the following countries: China, Romania, Russia, Vietnam and Guatemala, and have a Mozambique adoption story in production. For this season they would like to cover NEW areas such as India, Peru, Korea, Poland, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, etc. For a domestic adoption story, it's ideal if they can get the involvement of both the birthfamily and the adoptive family. Ideally, they'd like a story when a match has been made, but the parties have not yet met. Foster adoptions are obviously different, and criteria can be more flexible. For search and reunion stories, they are hoping to find stories where a match has been identified and both parties are willing to reunite, but where the first contact has not yet been made. They would like to find a good variety of races and cultures touched by adoption, and are particularly interested in Native American adoption, adoptions by disabled parents or any other adoptions that are unique in some way.
If you are interested in sharing your story for any of the above media opportunities, please send a 1-3 paragraph summary of your adoption story to profiles@adoption.com. When you contact us, please include your name, e-mail, phone numbers and best time to call. Adoptive parents who want to apply must obtain permission from the agencies involved.
