Cherish the Lives

I went home to see my parents tonight, and they showed me a video they just received, from an aunt, of my grandparents. It was about 3 hours long, and it was the best thing I've seen in a long time. My Granny was first, and I smiled so big when I saw her face. She told stories about her parents, her childhood, meeting my grandfather, etc. It was so nice to see her and hear her voice again. Although, I have to say I can still hear her voice in my head, so it has never really left me. Then, all of the sudden, my Pappy was on the screen. My grandfather died 6 weeks before my 16th birthday, so I don't have too many memories with him. Needless to say, I started crying. So much that I almost couldn't breathe. It was such a great feeling to be able to see and hear my grandfather. He told stories much like my Granny did, and spoke of his involvement in WWII. He spoke of his father and grandfather being stone masons and brick masons - I think up in Maryland. And how he, as a teenager, helped a man build a brick oven for a bakery. He mentioned the bakery name, but I didn't catch it, so I'll have to watch it again and take notes next time.
I can't even begin to express what I am feeling after watching this. These are questions that I would've asked them had I had the chance to spend my adult life with them. This is something I had planned to do with my mothers parent's back in November, but the day didn't work out as planned. However, I think I am definitely going to have to go forward with those plans so we will have something to look back on of them as well.

added later - I forgot to mention that as a kid, my grandfather found a Civil War bayonet and US Flag buried in the ground. His mother got mad at him at something (we think she was crazy) and gave it away!
