I've recently been thinking about how the city life is so out of touch. Out of touch with everything. Families, friendships, nature, etc - all things that should be important. Rather, everyone in the cities are concerned with material things and how much money they have, or pretend to have. Its so fake. Almost everything about this city I live in is fake, and the people are so freakin pretentious! It gets on my nerves.
Then, we go home to visit family in a small country town. Of course, you do have the few people in the town who claim to be "all that", but for the most part you have good "down-home" people who are genuine. A town where some people still leave their keys in their vehicles. Unlocked. Overnight. Its also a place where the trees are currently an abundance, and you can see all the stars in the sky, and hear nature at its best with her frogs and crickets playing a beautiful tune at night. The roads are made of dirt, and its so small there isn't even a Dairy Queen. Its truly got to be Heaven on Earth.
Unfortunately, all of this is sure to change and the "ways of the city" are bound to slowly sneak their way in. For example, people lock their doors at night, and some are beginning to lock their car doors too. And one of the local highways, that was two lanes, is now in the midst of expansion. A plot of land, dear to the family, was recently logged - which ruined a favorite deer hunting spot, and the local frogs had to find somewhere else to go.
So, of course, the words to this song really hit me hard everytime I hear it. It makes me sad to think of our future, as a Nation, being "all city".

"Country Ain't Country"
He was raised on a tractor in overalls and boots
Been to college and then law school since leaving his roots
Came home in a Lexus, he left in a Ford
Country ain't country no more
He told his daddy catch up with the times
He said now a days people trade heifers online
Dad ain't selling deals with a handshake like before
Country ain't country no more
No, country ain't country no more
The back forty was sold to make up for hard times
Then sold by the half acre lot overnight
The houses went up and the trees were cut down
And there went the finest deer hunting around
Lord, everyone's locking their doors
'Cause country ain't country no more
Now his dad sits in traffic looking 'round at the change
Watching crews turn the county road into four lanes
The old Sunday drive has turned into a chore
Country ain't country no more
Lord, country ain't country no more
The back forty was sold to make up for hard times
Then sold by the half acre lot overnight
The houses went up and the trees were cut down
And there went the finest deer hunting around
Lord, everyone's locking their doors
'Cause country ain't country no more
There's no turning back
And you just can't ignore
That country ain't country no more
No, country ain't country no more
