I wrote this post a while back about sending Thank You notes to those who give gifts. Well, someone posted this comment today:
Wow! You all sent out your thank you's so quickly...could it be that it's really just a chore to everyone and that you have to rush to get through them just to say that you did. I personally am very unimpressed by the typical thank you "thank you for the blue babies blanket, rattle and adorable outfit. They will all come in handy." Ya think? Don't bother! The only thank you's that I welcome are the ones that I am not EXPECTING. Such as, "it was so thoughful of you to drop off dinner to us on Sunday! With the birth of Jacob, we hadn't had a hot meal in weeks. I'll pay you back with a drink after breastfeeding is over."
Yes, you went to the store, went to registery and picked something off it that wasn't too cheap and/or wouldn't break the bank and came to the shower but do you really want to think that your friends wasted their Saturday afternoon, weekday night or even a spare 15 minutes on a card that you will toss in the trash faster than a new york minute?
Maybe you all should think about the fact that the newlyweds have other things or their mind, not to mention enjoying the fact that their wedding planning is done or that the parents to be should enjoy this time together before so much of their time is devoted to the baby. Do you really want to think that because you want a pat on the back, a couple has to forgo valuable time together?
